October 8th, 2016, will always be remembered as a special day for me. Not only was it the first of two weddings on this date, but it was one of my best friends wedding! May was eloping to Godfrey at Spanish banks, with Kurt and Cibele getting married in Vancouver, a few hours later.
To fill you in on the story, May and Kurt we’re both in my hospitality degree program about 10 years ago. I was the youngest in the group, just coming straight from high school. Over the 4 years we studied, partied, and did whatever college kids did together. May and Kurt treated me like a younger brother. When they both approached me with their weddings being on the same day, I was worried I couldn’t do both. Luckily for me, May and Godfrey had their wedding in the early morning, with Kurt and Cibele tying the knot in the afternoon. Having two of my closest college friends celebrate their wedding on the same day, was something I would’ve never imagined. Their Vancouer rainy elopement is something I’ll always remember.
I met May 10 years ago, during our time studying for our hospitality management degree. It was during Mr. Lau’s bartending class when I accidentally broke a glass. Being as discreet as possible, a loud voice across the room shouted ” Mr. Lau, Justin broke the glass again”. Much like an older sister telling on their younger sibling, it was from that moment on where our friendship started.
Standing on a beach side, 10 years later, at 8:00am with one of my best friends in torrential downpour was not what I expected. May and Godfrey chose an intimate Jericho Beach wedding to celebrate their love. These two first met in Edmonton, when May moved from Vancouver. It was during her role at Fairmont, when Godfrey made his first impressions, by frequently visiting the HR office. Although Godfrey, missed their first date, by sleeping in, it was after their first breakfast date where Godfrey knew May was the one. After many hikes and walks, these two can officially call each other husband and wife!
I’m so glad I was able to capture these moments for May and Godfrey as they celebrate their special day together. You knew when the first words from the officiant was to inform May to spit her gum out, before she said her vows that it was going to be a funny ceremony. There were definitely a few hiccups during the vows, but it’s those little things during the wedding that make each unique. As we concluded the ceremony by singing papers by the concession stand, I can’t wait to see what the future brings for you both! Unfortunately a Snorlax didn’t show up for her, but at least you have Godfrey for life! Best of luck to you two!
