Following the 4 hour drive and overlooking the Okanagan Lake, coming into Kelowna made me appreciate how grateful I was to be here for Nancy and Karen’s Cedarcreek Winery wedding. You can read more about how we met from their Steveston engagement blog post here. Touching on my last posts about these 2, it’s crazy to see where the hospitality management program has taken me. Who would’ve guessed the 4 years getting my degree would lead me to photograph multiple weddings from my former classmates. It’s something I’m so thankful for.
For Saturday afternoon, we did some door games before the actual wedding day on Sunday. Of course, it’s not door games without eating. First up on the menu, celery, peanut butter, olives. Not the tastiest thing, except for a handful of Karen’s side who enjoyed it. Missing ” something blue” for the wedding, Karen and the rest of her bridal party got their nails done with some blue nail polish. Lastly, door games need an embarrassing element. What better way to embarrass everyone than a lap dance contest. Drawing random songs out of a hat, to know what song they were dancing to, Nancy and her bridesmaids had a great laugh!
The Sunday morning was just as I imagined. Sunny, with local vineyards along the drive to the Airbnb where Nancy and her bridesmaids were getting ready. With the team at Raine Artistry prepping the girls with hair and makeup, I managed to get some getting photos before swinging over to the Delta hotel where Karen and her party were getting ready! Karen kept it simple. With a textured grey suit, to match her fellow bridesmaids and bridesmen, everyone was in relatively calm spirits. Over at the Airbnb, everyone was in full swing. From the kitchen area to the bedrooms, makeup and hair were taking places in every corner of the house as the ceremony neared closer.
As everyone finished up with their final touches, Nancy came out to the living room in her dress. From relatives to bridesmaids, everyone stopped and took in how stunning Nancy looked in her dress. Making our way to Cedarcreek Winery Estate, the backdrop was as scenic as it could get. Blue skies, mountainous backdrop, luscious greenery with white lawn chairs for the ceremony. The paper parasols were a nice touch for those needing some shade from the sun!
After the ceremony, wine and refreshments were served but not before taking advantage of the estate for some photos!
DIY was seen all around the reception space. Most impressive was the seating chart designed by Nancy and Karen. In addition to the handcrafted seating chart, was the frame and backdrop used for group photos. Talk about talent!
With a moment to finally catch a breath after dinner, we took the bridal party to the boardwalk for the remaining sunset. The perfect way to cap off what was a busy day.
The evening filled with heartfelt speeches showed the character of these two. Genuine, loving, and tons of fun. What better way to finish the night, with shoes off and hitting the dance floor with a 90’s playlist!
Congrats to Nancy and Karen! It’s been so exciting to see your journey and bring you to where you are today. I can’t wait to see what life brings you for you both. Also a HUGE shoutout to Vivian my second shooter, for driving all the way from Vancouver!!
